Fireworks Safety for Your July 4th Celebration
As Independence Day approaches, you're probably thinking about watching a beautiful fireworks display with your family and friends. July 4th celebrations can be a lot of fun, but you also need to be mindful of your safety. Fireworks can be dangerous and should only be handled by adults, even sparklers. They are the second highest cause of fireworks-related injuries requiring trips to the hospital. Sparklers can heat up to 1800 degrees Fahrenheit, which is hot enough to melt gold! To have a fun and safe July 4th celebration, check out these fireworks safety tips: Limit the involvement of children in the handling of any fireworks. Despite being the kids' favorite, avoid sparklers. They can catch your clothing on fire. Never attempt to make your own fireworks. Keep your distance from other people who are lighting their own fireworks. It's a good idea to have a water source nearby, in case of emergency.

Have a spectacular July 4th, and remember to play it safe. (7/1/2010)
