Keep your emotions in check All too often, people let their emotions get the best of them in a heated discussion. In some cases, this can lead to a physical confrontation. To help keep your feelings in check, step back for a moment when someone is antagonizing you. Is responding to the person remarks really worth a possible encounter with the police? Count to ten, and think about the results of taking physical action. If it’s a situation that you can’t ignore, talk calmly with the person, using logic rather than emotion.
