Sprain Into Action Ankle sprains are one of the most common types of injuries. Fortunately, minor sprains can be treated with relative ease. Just remember ICE.
Rest – Take a few days of rest, minimizing activity to the ankle. Ice – Place an ice pack on your ankle for 15-20 minutes several times a day. Leaving ice on more than 20 minutes at a time, however, can do more harm than good. Compression – Wrap the ankle with a bandage until the sprain is healed. Elevate – Whenever possible, elevate the ankle above the heart. If problems from small sprains persist or if the injury is severe, see a doctor.
